“Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation” -Walter Cronkite
The oldest continually running Library in the world is the Library of Paris with the National Library of France founded in1368. The first known librarian in the world that we know of is not Mary Moore. No, the honor goes to Zenodotus of Ephesus, from the end of Ptolemy the 1st’s reign (285 BC). Did you know that 68% of Americans have library cards, and 70% of them use them more than 7 times a year? Well now you know more than you used to about Libraries!
Our Library has grown to 550 patrons at this time, and our collection to 9000 items. With all the upcoming sunshine, we have lots of idea books for outdoor living. Spring is a great time for using the library! Spring is busting out in the children’s room also. New DVDs are always being donated, as are new books and periodicals…there’s a lot to keep up with. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers for helping out. Look out for our next fundraiser on May 20th, sure to be a fun time!
Magic the Gathering game will be meeting on the last Saturday of April, the 30th. Call Lisa Rowe for more info. 292-3246
The Tapestry Project is ongoing, Tue 1-3, and Thu 10-12 pm. If you haven’t dropped in yet, you are in for a peak visual experience! If you’d like to join this awesome group of folk, please do. Experience is not necessary. Some incredibly talented artists who are working on these pieces will inspire you.
