by Diana Pasquini, San Juan Ridge Family Resource CenterSPORTS CAMP and ART CAMP are two traditions that are highly valued by children, their families, and the community. Not only do these summer camps provide enriching experiences and a lot of fun for camp goers. They provide summer jobs for local teens and opportunities for highly skilled professionals to share their expertise with a new generation of young athletes and artists. Every year new friendships are forged, old ones strengthened, and happy campers pledge to “See you next year” at camp’s end.
This year one more week of summer camp will be added to the Family Resource Center’s calendar. Following the usual 3 weeks of SPORTS CAMP in July, will be a week of ART CAMP. A ten year San Juan Ridge tradition, ART CAMP is relocating from the North Columbia Schoolhouse to the Oak Tree Campus. Although the venue is changing, ART CAMP will retain the same high quality of arts instruction and experiences. Most of the highly skilled teaching artists will be returning, as will many of the counselors.
Some things that have changed are our resources. Grants that once funded day-to-day operations, as well as special activities such as children’s classes and summer camps, are no longer available. Committed to providing the best services possible, the Family Resource Center is embarking upon the rocky road of fundraising. It is our goal to maintain the excellent quality of our children’s camps and activities while keeping registration fees affordable.
You can help us do this by having fun at our big EARTH DAY CELEBRATION. 100% of the money made by the FRC at that event will help support our children’s camps and activities. You can also donate an unused vehicle or buy an ad in our newsletter. We are grateful to our community for its generosity and support and we look forward to seeing you soon.
