Beginning on August 15, the first day of school, and continuing every afternoon throughout the year, there will be activities from the end of the school day until 6pm for all K-8 Grizzly Hill students. Funded by an After School Education & Safety (ASES) grant from the California Department of Education, the program will be coordinated by Sunshine Bender and Jessica Navarrete.

ASES coordinator Sunshine Bender outlined the program. “We want to give the kids a structured environment to be in. First the kids will have a healthy snack donated by Briar Patch. Then the kids will have an hour to do homework or read. Next will be an hour of physical activity. That could be play ground time, running or walking the track, or playing sports and games.  Next will be one hour of recreation time with plenty of activities, including arts, science experiments, or gardening. I believe this is going to keep kids entertained after school so that they’re not just going home and playing on their devices or hanging around town.” Coordinator Jessica Navarrete added, “I want to give these kids a nice safe place to socialize in a structured environment. I’m honored to be working with the kids of this community.”
