Child Support Services to Provide Free Income Tax Services

posted Feb 3, 2015, 12:25 PM by Kristin Snell

From a Friday Memo by the CEO of Nevada County, found on the web at: http://www.mynevadacounty.com/nc/ceo/Pages/FridayMemo-20150116.aspx

Beginning January 21, 2015 Sierra Nevada Regional Department of Child Support Services (Nevada County Child Support) will be hosting free income tax preparation assistance and e-filing of simple returns. Nevada County Child Support will again be working in collaboration with Nevada County 211 to assist individuals and families to determine if they may be eligible for a refundable tax credit called the Earned Income Tax Credit, or EITC. You may be eligible for this tax credit even if you are not required to file an income tax return.  The reason you may not need to file a return is because your income was too low to be taxed, but even still, you may be eligible for tax refund based upon your earned income.

Unlike tax exemptions, both EITC eligibility and the amount of tax credit you are eligible for is based on several factors. These include, the amount of your income, or combined incomes if married, whether you have qualifying children and how many. Workers without children also may qualify for EITC.

Free tax preparation and e-file dates are January 21, 2015 through April 15, 2015:

8:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday
Evening and weekend assistance is by appointment only.

For more information or to schedule an appointment you may contact Nevada County 211, (Just dial 211 from any phone or via the web at http://www.mynevadacounty.com/Pages/Dial211.aspx) or Nevada County Child Support at (530) 265-7097 or stop by our office at the Eric Rood Building, 950 Maidu Ave, Nevada City, CA 95959.
