Last month I was doing an inventory of our materials for insurance purposes.  The dollar amount to replace our collection turned out to be over $300,000!  I think we could buy a house with this amount.  THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all the local and big city (Nevada City & Grass Valley) contributors, Sammie’s Nifty Thrifty, and the wonderful Nevada County Library Friends.

I promised a review of the first two books in a new Science Fiction series; Allynne Riggs, The Blood. While Allynn lives in Denver, I count her as a local author because in her acknowledgements she gives credit to Awful Annie’s Café in Auburn for the orange cinnamon tea which is drunk during stressful and romantic moments.  What makes this series special to me is the mixture of high tech space travel and medicine, and a deep respect for environment, with the scientists growing their gardens and limiting their footprints on the earths. Yes, I think we are dealing with two earths…well maybe.  There are two planets of differing technology levels, but striking cultural similarities in dancing, singing, and combat. One is terrified of all aliens, the other needs the first one’s help.  There are at least two more books coming.  Go, Allyn, go.

Music folk---we are ready for you, thirty new (to us) books. We just added: a book on guitar repair, how to form a band; how to develop the bands repertoire; how to go on tour; how to record; how to deal with soloist; and how to run a record company. We also have 15 new poetry books for lyrics ideas.

We look forward to an exciting New Year, celebrating our continuing partnerships to bring you the best library possible.
