Now that the open enrollment period is underway, Nevada County citizens will be able to purchase health coverage through the Covered California Marketplace. Applicants may be eligible to receive the Advanced Premium Tax Credit (APTC), reducing the amount they pay for the selected health plan premiums. Tax penalties increase each year for those individuals who do not obtain minimum essential health coverage.
Interested citizens can apply for health plans online by going to www.CoveredCA.com, or by calling (800) 300-1506.
They can also apply online through the Nevada County Department of Social Services at www.C4Yourself.com; or at one of our local offices located at the Rood Building, 950 Maidu Avenue, Nevada City, or at the Joseph Center in our Truckee offices, located at 10075 Levon Avenue, Suite 202. Prospective applicants may also call the Nevada County Department of Social Services at (530) 265-1340 to complete an application by phone.
A final option available is to dial 211 on a local phone and speak to a Dial-211 Nevada County operator who is available 24 hours a day to answer any questions related to open enrollment, and can assist in enrolling those interested in applying. For more information, or to live chat with an operator, go to http://211nevadacounty.org .
Editor’s note: While the Family Resource Center no longer employs a Covered California Certified Enrollment Counselor, those interested are welcome to use FRC computers, phone and workspace to complete applications.
