Although the sweltering heat would lead us to believe otherwise, summer has come to an end for many. Camps and day-long excursions to the Yuba are now fond memories as boys and girls are back in school. Returning to their classrooms in mid-August, students are already settling into a routine that will dominate the lives of families for the next nine months. We wish all students, their families, and teachers the very best school year ever!

“I like being back in school. We do lunch, then recess, then library. That’s pretty much what I like to do. I’m good at playing hide-and-seek and spider tag at recess time and I made two new friends. I need to learn to make a map of where I live.”

“It feels good to be back in school. I like to go to the computer lab. This year we get to play on the big playground, not just the tiny playground that the kindergartners play on. The math isn’t as easy this year and I like that. I want to learn math. I already know most of the math but I want to know more.

“School is good. I like it. It’s fun and easier than first grade. When the timer goes off on one choice there’s the next choice and we switch games. We get to play Bingo in the computer lab. I want to learn to be a better speller this year.”

It feels a little different to be back in school this year because I have a different teacher, but I like it.  What I like best is art and that the art teacher is actually helping me learn how to draw. I like math and reading too. My goal in school is to do a good job.”

“It’s a little bit tiring to be back in school because I was used to summer break; but it’s also fun because I get to see all my friends. Getting to see Mrs. Romney and my friends are the best things about being back. I really like art class. Right now we’re doing clay. Tomorrow we’re making pinch pots with tops.”

“It’s good to be back in school. I get to see all my friends again. I haven’t seen them for a long time. This year we get to read more in class. I love reading! Right now I’m reading “The Island of Aunts.” I also love Art. We’re making leather pouches in art class. I hope to do better in math this year because I’m not very good at math.”
