Opening on the San Juan Ridge on September 18th, Miss Laura’s Waldorf Inspired Childcare will be providing “a preschool style environment in which children will experience the connection between the Earth, the seasons, and each other through cooperative play and outdoor explorations. Weekly activities will include: seasonal nature-based crafts, song circles, baking in the earthen oven, caring for and harvesting from the garden, and walks down to the creek.”

When asked what inspired her to become a Waldorf-inspired child care provider, Laura replied, “I’ve worked with kids ever since I was 19. When I went from working in the public school system to my son’s Waldorf preschool, I fell in love with the Waldorf philosophy and with how connected the children were to the Earth, the way they experienced all the seasons through crafts and festivals. The teachers connected with the children on more than an intellectual level.” In addition to working at a Waldorf preschool, Miss Laura has been a child development assistant in the San Juan Unified School District, as well as a nanny and childcare provider. She is also the mother of two young children and has assisted with young children’s activities at the San Juan Ridge Family Resource Center.
