Adjacent to the San Juan Ridge Community Library, North San Juan Early Head Start has been providing young families with a strong foundation for over a generation. Guided for the past twenty-three years by Director Stormy Nelson, Early Head Start is an accredited, no-cost, year-round program providing regular socializations, including play times, nutritous lunches, crafts, and other developmentally appropriate activities for very young children aged 0-3 and their parents. Prenatal parents are also accepted into the Early Head Start program. With a deep understanding of the needs of young families, Ms Nelson is dedicated to providing support and care so that San Juan Ridge children are assured of a healthy start in life.

The Early Head Start program recently re-opened for in-person socializations on Tuesdays with Covid protocols in place. Before re-opening, their indoor space was thoughtfully updated to create an even more welcoming environment for families with young children. Simple, natural toys, soft lighting, gentle colors and lots of open floor space make for an inviting, calming and charming atmosphere. Another change is that families who attend receive a delicious, organic meal catered by BriarPatch Food Co-op – what a treat!
