Although a warm dry May made it seem as though summer has been with us for a while, it’s time to get ready for the real thing. Summer does not tip toe his way into these Sierra Foothills. He blows in on hot north winds, whipping up whirlwinds of ubiquitous red dust, transforming blades of soft green grass to brittle straw skeletons writhing in his arid wake. Summer skies are brilliantly blue. Days are long and bright. Gardens are colorful havens, and the Yuba is a refuge for the water loving heat-weary.

As summer days lengthen, so do the San Juan Ridge Family Resource Center’s hours. Beginning on Thursday July 1, the FRC will be open 10 am-4 pm, Monday-Friday. Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 10am-noon, will still be home to our popular Children’s Playgroups. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 am-3 pm, will also be Food Pantry Days; and the Food Bank’s regularly scheduled drive-thru food distributions will remain on the second Tuesday of the month, 10 am-noon. Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 am-3 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays 1-3 pm are Clothes Closet days. Because of limited access, computer use is still by appointment only. As always, we will be available to make copies, send and receive faxes, provide access to a telephone and drinking water, share information on services and community resources, and accept donations during open hours.

We hope that you will take advantage of our new expanded schedule not only to pick up some groceries and outfit your family with a new summer wardrobe, but just to stop by and say “Hi.” Food and clothing may be necessities of life, and so is human contact. We look forward to greeting each and every one of our “family” as you cross our threshold. We’re back, baby, and the welcome mat is out.
