“Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.”
Franklin Delano Roosevelt
On THURSDAY, APRIL 19, at 6:30pm, in the OAK TREE LODGE, we will have the opportunity to hear presentations from three candidates who are vying for the office of NEVADACOUNTY SHERIFF. San Juan Ridge voters will also have the opportunity to meet Susan Hoek, who is the unopposed candidate for NEVADA COUNTY DISTRICT IV SUPERVISOR.
Co-hosted by San Juan Ridge Taxpayers Association and San Juan Ridge Family Resource Center, CANDIDATES NIGHT will provide an opportunity to see the candidates, to hear each one explain why he or she is the best person for the job, and listen as they directly address issues that are of concern to San Juan Ridge citizens. An informed electorate truly is a force to be reckoned with.
Ridge Candidates Night will follow a traditional format in which each candidate will have an opportunity to introduce him/herself, then answer pre-selected questions that will be presented by a moderator. Topics may range from transportation, homelessness, environmental issues, land use, fire safety, crime and law enforcement, cannabis, and more. Doors will open at 6:00 pm; so there will be time to submit written questions prior to the presentations. Questions and/or comments will not be taken from the floor. Members of the public will be able to access additional information on the candidates by visiting tables in the Lodge, where it will also be possible to register to vote. Wearing or displaying campaign buttons or other articles that endorse, denounce or identify political candidates or issues will not be permitted in the Lodge. If you have any questions regarding CANDIDATES NIGHT, please call the San Juan Ridge Family Resource Center at 292-3174. We encourage one and all to represent our beautiful and diverse community’s interests and get to know these new public servant nominees with us.
