Local Art explodes at the Library!
The picture you are not seeing is a dreary black and white version of our gorgeous colorful mosaic floor at the library entrance. Garth Melendez donated over two weeks of talent and labor to create this mountain scene, all made from broken tile! We also enjoy paintings by Randy Griffis (a scene of old N. San Juan and a magical tree), Karen Hinrichs (a loving dragon), William Crosby (three geometric abstracts-he has a better name for them), and Roo Cantada (a jolly elephant, and a local bear). There are five photographs by Dickran Knoble, including a silly one of the library staff. William Wright donated a bronze statue of a gold panner, who is bookending our local history section where we are rotating copies of old maps donated by UC Davis. Most interesting is a four-foot pirate goat made years ago by the local Head Start children. Sometimes, I hang one of my small quilts if it fits into a theme in the childrens’ room. The art couples so well with the literature and wood! Thanks to all who contribute to beautifying our space.
We don’t really have a lot of wall space…but if you would have something that is no higher than 15 inches to go above the bookshelves that you would like to share with the community, let’s talk. We can’t handle sales, but would be happy to give a prospective buyer your information, after you sign a release for liability.
If you are interested in Arts of all kinds, we have books on everything from drawing with children, folk art, fiber arts, art history, modern art, movie history, and architecture. We still have a little winter left to stay indoors reading and learning to craft something special. And if you make it by, make sure to glimpse at the walls while you peruse for the perfect book!
